How Have I Missed This for 25 Years?

So, I have discovered that our friends over in the United Kingdom are very, very good at keeping secrets. Or, those of us on this side of the proverbial pond are a bit dense... or perhaps insular... (there we go. Better word).

Anyway, it all started when I decided to christen my brand new, Hulu Plus subscription with an episode or two of Miranda. In what turned out to be an embarrassingly fast binge watching session, I found my way to series three, episode five “Three Little Words” which features a cameo from the perennially adorable (and equally brilliant) Gary Barlow.

A few short Google searches later, I had stumbled onto a plethora of Take That music videos, spanning the band’s almost twenty-five year history. Having been in middle school/ high school in the 1990’s, Back for Good had teenage me (who I desperately try to repress) in fits of giggles.

Now, I find myself a card carrying member of the fandom (affectionally known as Thatters). I’m just twenty-five years late to the party.

The brief history is that the band broke up in the mid 1990s after the departure of Robbie Williams. In 2006, Take That reformed (everyone except Williams returning) and demonstrated that even boy bands can evolve (Check out ’The Flood’). Almost ten years later, the band is still going strong as a three piece (after the departure of Jason Orange).

Almost twenty-five years removed from Take That’s initial founding, there are rumors (though seemingly confirmed by Gary Barlow) that Take That will finally be getting the American exposure which has largely eluded them. At the time of publication, it has been reported by a number of UK based news sources that Take That has signed a residency deal at a yet unnamed Las Vegas casino, and are slated to debut a new show on ‘The Strip’ in 2017. So, if you haven’t listened to Take That, you definitely should be. Here’s hoping for big things on the horizon for the adaptable, hard working band.
